The Art of Taekwon-Do
The art of Taekwon-Do is paradoxical in its ability to take a meek passive person and mold him or her into a confident and self assured individual. Taekwon-Do can also turn an aggressive , bullying type of individual into a thoughtful and mild mannered person. Both extremes are derived from the absence of self confidence and lack of respect for oneself. This character and health improving art, transfers over to children's ability to perform well in school and socially; and to an adults’ ability to excel in the work place, in handling employee/supervisor relations.
Self Defense
Self Defense is what most people equate with any form of martial arts, and the styles are numerous. The superiority of traditional Taekwon-Do over other styles stems from its ability to use both feet and hands to defend ones self when faced with an aggressor. Compared to other forms of self defense, Taekwon-Do is distinguished for its kicking. When properly executed, a small person can stop a much larger attacker. What we provide is expert training in correct kicking, hand striking and blocking techniques. Learning how to block and strike will teach the student the different parts of the body that are most susceptible to injury and how to utilize their “tools” properly.
Benefits to Children and Teens
Taekwon-Do has a positive role in childhood development, both physically and socially. Studies have shown that children in Taekwon-Do have an increased sense of responsibility, a decrease in the willingness to take foolish risks and a higher sense of self-esteem. Doctors and other medical professionals recommend martial arts such as Taekwon-Do because of the positive outlet it gives children for all of their energy. We promote good behavior and have the same expectations for the student’s home and in school. Since, Taekwon-Do focuses heavily on the large muscle groups of the human body (i.e. the legs), training for kids from an early age (6 years and up) promotes superior skeletal, muscular and cardiovascular development; along with heightened coordination, balance and flexibility. A healthy body is conducive to a keen mental acumen.
